Kerala celebrated 80 years of engineering education in the state. Ever since its inception in 1939, Kerala’s first engineering college, The College of Engineering Trivandrum, has been able to maintain its eminence in academic and curricular activities. To mark this historic milestone, the college has launched a year-long series of programs and activities, beginning with a celebration and cake cutting ceremony on 3rd July 2019.

CET’s Birthday celebrations witnessed a crowd that is still in awe of their alma mater. In his presidential address, Principal Dr. Jiji C V stressed on how CET has been able to pioneer pathways in the past, and how it intended to tackle the future; aiming at a spot in the top 30 colleges in India coupled with advancement in the research and development department. 1953 batch alumnus Mr. Kaimal cut the cake and other alumni shared their experiences and memories on stage. The event concluded with a tree-planting ceremony embodying CET’s commitment towards the future. All those who were present also observed a moment of silence in remembrance of Mr. George Cherian who was the last remaining alumnus of the first batch.

Over the years it has witnessed incredible growth; now with eight departments offering eight undergraduate courses, 23 postgraduate and doctoral programs under the Abdul Kalam Technological University. And all undergraduate and postgraduate programs have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

When it was established in 1939 by the then Travancore princely state, it had an initial intake of just 21 students each for degree and diploma courses in civil, mechanical and electrical branches. Today, the sprawling 125-acre campus is home away from home to over 3500 students, 285 teaching staff and 290 non-teaching staff from across the state and nation. CET has been able to generate a good number of successful engineers and CET alumni are spread across the world in diverse career roles from engineers, scientists, technocrats and architects to CXOs, bureaucrats, and entrepreneurs.

The CET is currently ranked 71st among engineering colleges and 5th among architecture institutions by the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF). It is also the most sought after engineering college under the KTU.
