Motor-less Electric Vehicle Developed at CET

The Department of Electrical Engineering at CET has successfully developed a Motor-less Electric Vehicle. The geared electric bike controlled by an electronic circuit has been designed and developed by Research Scholar Sri. Jino Joy Thomas under the guidance of Dr. S Ushakumari, who was Professor and Head of Department of Electrical Engineering during the period of 2015 - 2019.

An innovative drive technology has been employed, replacing the current petrol engine, with a motor-less powerplant working on magnetic energy. The vehicle is as powerful as a conventional petrol engine powered bike. This indegenious technology requires only very few electronic components and vehicles that are currently on our roads, including multi-cylinder vehicles, can be modified to this mode of motor-less geared electric vehicle. Also, this can be carried out in a sufficiently cost-effective manner.

The college had filed an application to patent this innovative technology in 2017 and once again in 2019. It is believed that this technology has great commercial implementation potential.
A number of research projects are presently progressing at College of Engineering Trivandrum on electric vehicle technology with financial support from Central as well as State Governments.
