The CET Cycling Club is an initiative of students and teachers of the College of Engineering Trivandrum to promote cycling on the college campus and other eco-friendly concerns. Plans to implement the green protocol on campus gave an impetus to the club’s launch in 2017. National cycling coach Usha had inaugurated the CET Cycling Club (CCC) and the logo was released by Sreekaryam Ward councillor Latha Kumar. Along with the launch, a cycling bay with space to accommodate nearly 50 bicycles was also set up at CET.
The motto of CCC, which is affiliated with the Indus Cycling Embassy, is “Go Cycling Go Green”. The club is proactive in spreading awareness about eco-friendly concerns all over kerala. They organise various cycle rides locally in Trivandrum as well as cycle rides to different parts within and outside Kerala.
CCC introduced their creative product Brain Cycle at Aagneya 2k18, the techfest of Barton Hill Engineering College held in 2018. A member of the CET Cycling Club and Alumnus (2019 Mechanical Engineering) Muhammed Musadhiq had a made a curious yet profound statement with his performance. He rode the modified bicycle from Kozhikode to Trivandrum in eight days. More than 2000 people took up the challenge and tried to ride the Brain Cycle, nobody was able to go more than 5 metres. The modifications on the cycle were made at the mechanical workshop at CET.
CCC plans to spread the idea to other colleges and educational institutions. To spread cycling culture among youth, the club will organise a campaign, Life Cycling 2019. In addition to seminars and classes, a training programme in repairing cycles will also be conducted at the educational institutions for the students who are interested.
