Gun Turrets : A cultural artefact at CET

Not many of us are familiar with this object. Most of us from the current generation have never even seen this before. What you’re looking at is a gun turret, which is used as a platform through which weapons can be fired. Used predominantly in the 19th and 20th centuries, most gun turrets are rotatable and assures visibility and protection. Gun Turrets go down in history as an artefact from World War II.

Are you wondering what a war weapon has to do with CET? In 2012, the students of CET displayed this weapon for Drishti, CET’s tech fest. This original gun turret is CET’s very own discovery; found in the confines of the campus. Rumour has it that it was brought to India by one of the early Principals of CET who had come from Great Britain.  A fascinating mechanism and an even more admirable attempt by the students who restored this medieval design.
